USA Cycling announced today the dates and venues for its 2010 American Mountain Bike Challenge (AMBC). All AMBC events will serve as qualifiers for the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships which are slated for July 15-18 in Granby, Colo.
Entering its 14th year in 2010, the 21-race AMBC series will visit 16 states over a period of seven months. Action kicks off with the South Eastern Regional Championship Series (SERC) opener in Gainesville, Fla. on March 14, and concludes with the Piney Hills Classic in Ruston, La. on Oct. 24. Two events are new to the AMBC for 2010 – the 17th Annual Barking Spider Bash in Boise, Idaho on April 10 and the Bear Creek Challenge in Macungie, Pa. on August 1. The Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce is honoring Levi Leipheimer as it’s 2010 Business Man of the Year for the impact his GranFondo ride had on the community in it’s first year.
3,150 riders participated in the 2009 edition of the ride which had a significant economic impact on the community estimated by the city to be $1,247,490
When told of the economic impact that reached above a million dollars, Leipheimer responded, “That’s pretty cool, huh? I wanted to pay back Sonoma County for what it has done for me. It (hills, roads, etc.) has made me a better cyclist and so the only motivation I had was to give something back to the area.”
The 2010 Levi Leipheimer King Ridge Ganfondo is set for October 9th
