The Perfect Grand Fondo Bike?

The type of riding I enjoy most is spending a long day in the saddle exploring the backroads with my friends.  We’ll follow  a long route that takes in the thin lines on the map, and in northwest Connecticut and western Massachusetts that means we’ll detour onto a few dirt roads as well.

The new Pinarello KOBH may just be the perfect bike for this type of riding.  It was designed with input from Team Sky for use on the cobbled roads of the northern classics, so it maintains the race heritage of the Pinarello Dogma, but allows wider tires, has a slightly more relaxed geometry, and a more compliant rear triangle.

Town Bids $20,000 For Mile-a-Minute Bike

In 1899, Charles “Mile-a Minute” Murphy set a speed record by riding a bicycle behind a train on Long Island, New York, and completed a mile in 57.8 seconds.  The bicycle used in this record attempt is owned by the Springfield Museums Association in Massachusetts, but has been in storage for the last three years.  Now, a town on Long Island wants to bring the bicycle home, and has offered $20,000 for the bicycle.

This photo of the bike is from the Nassau County Museum Archive when it was on display there.

Personally, if I was investing $20,000 for a bicycle, I’d probably opt for something made of carbon, and titanium, but it’s nice to want to own a piece of history to put on display.  Read more about the story of Mile-a-minute Murphy here or here.
